Coronary CT Angiography (CCTA) in Kissimmee & Lakeland, FL

As part of our Cardiac Imaging suite, Coronary CT Angiography (CCTA) is used to evaluate abnormalities in the blood vessels of the heart but can also be used in blood vessels elsewhere in the body. CCTA can show blockages, aneurysms and other problems with comparable accuracy to a traditional, invasive angiogram. CCTA requires the injection of a contrast material so that the radiologist can clearly see the flow of blood through the blood vessels.

For patients with acute or chronic chest pain, CT Angiography is a non-invasive way to accurately image the coronary arteries without the need for an interventional angiogram. It provides a comprehensive assessment of cardiovascular anatomy for the presence of coronary artery disease.

Three-dimensional volume-rendered images are useful for assessing the relationships among different anatomical structures, as well as quantifying atherosclerotic coronary plaques. Numerous clinical studies have demonstrated CCTA sensitivity of up to 95% and specificity of up to 98%.

When a patient has acute chest pain (and possible acute coronary syndrome), CCTA can be used for something called the “triple rule-out.” This is a highly cost-effective test to evaluate the coronary arteries, aorta, pulmonary arteries and other heart structures in a single scan with a minimized radiation dose. Typically used for patients who are at low to medium risk for the acute coronary syndrome, this test helps clarify the patient’s condition so that the proper treatment can be administered, or the best course of action can be taken.
