Coronary Calcium Score (Heart Scan)
A Coronary Calcium Score also referred to as a heart scan, is a non-invasive tool offered at Radiology and Imaging Specialists to clarify heart disease risk. A calcium score is calculated based on the amount of calcified plaque in your coronary arteries.
The coronary calcium score is fast, highly revealing and inexpensive at just $50. Please check with your insurance provider for additional coverage information.
Call Radiology and Imaging Specialists for more information or to schedule your coronary calcium score today: (863) 688-2334. We have several convenient locations throughout Central Florida.
Coronary CT Angiography
For patients with acute or chronic chest pain, CT Angiography is a non-invasive way to accurately image the coronary arteries without the need for an interventional angiogram. It provides a comprehensive assessment of cardiovascular anatomy for the presence of coronary artery disease.
Three-dimensional volume-rendered images are useful for assessing the relationships among different anatomical structures, as well as quantifying atherosclerotic coronary plaques. Numerous clinical studies have demonstrated CTA sensitivity of up to 95% and specificity of up to 98%.
Radiology and Imaging Specialists has been performing CT scans for more than 50 years in the Lakeland, Florida area. Our equipment is state of the art and provides excellent image quality for a more accurate diagnosis. We have five convenient Lakeland-area imaging center locations. To schedule your CT scan call RIS today at (863) 688-2334.
Cardiac CT
CT is a non-invasive imaging test that obtains images of your heart and coronary arteries. It is very fast and accurate, allowing your doctor to identify problems in the structure of the heart, as well as the arteries that deliver blood to it. It can detect blockages or abnormalities in the heart’s blood vessels, fluid in the pericardial sac or scarring within the heart muscle caused by a heart attack.
When a patient exhibits symptoms of a heart problem, CT is often used to help determine the problem, or at least “rule out” certain conditions so that the next steps or tests may be taken. CT is used to help doctors detect or evaluate ischemic heart disease, pericardial disease or heart function, calcium buildup in the coronary arteries and problems with the aorta or the heart valves. It is also used to monitor the results of heart surgery, such as coronary artery bypass grafting.
To schedule your CT scan call RIS today at (863) 688-2334.
Nuclear Medicine – Cardiac Amyloidosis Technetium-99m pyrophosphate
Technetium-99m pyrophosphate (Tc 99m PYP) imaging is a noninvasive nuclear imaging test. It is a less expensive alternative to endomyocardial biopsy for diagnosing cardiac transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR). Differentiating between amyloid variants is important for prognosis, therapy and genetic counseling.
To learn more about nuclear medicine or nuclear scans, call Radiology and Imaging Specialists at (863) 688-2334.
Echocardiogram
An echocardiogram, also known as an echo, is a test offered by Radiology and Imaging Specialists at our Central Lakeland location. An echo test will tell your doctor your heart’s structure and check how well your heart is functioning. It can show how your heart moves, pumping strength, valve structure and health. An echo is an ultrasound of your heart and has no side effects.
All of our echocardiograms are interpreted by a board-certified cardiologist. RIS offers fast, convenient scheduling and rapid test results. Call today to schedule your Echo at (863) 688-2334.
Heart Flow
Radiology and Imaging Specialists now offers HeartFlow FFRct analysis. This new capability is transforming the way cardiovascular disease is diagnosed and treated. It is also demonstrated to reduce unnecessary and invasive diagnostic coronary angiography.
If you are suspected to have coronary artery disease (CAD) your doctor may recommend you have a CT Angiography (CTA) which is an excellent, non-invasive test to anatomically assess the coronary arteries and identify blockages that could result in a fatal heart attack. The new HeartFlow uses data from your CTA and uses sophisticated software to create a personalized 3D model of the heart and can now simulate blood flow to guide better treatment. To learn more or schedule, please call RIS at (863) 688-2334.
Cardiac MRI
Many physicians use CT and CT angiography to diagnose and evaluate or rule out heart disease. Despite CT’s ability to pinpoint blockages in the coronary arteries, it lacks the ability to differentiate healthy tissue from abnormal tissue within the heart. CT is also not capable of assessing myocardial viability and quantifying myocardial perfusion.
Cardiac MRI is an excellent tool to determine heart muscle viability. It can assess the size and thickness of chambers within the heart to determine the extent and severity of valvular disease. It provides detailed information about the type and severity of heart disease in order to help guide therapeutic decisions. To schedule your Cardiac MRI, call Radiology and Imaging Specialists at (863) 688-2334.
